Clerk: "You want a bag for the bleach?"
Me: "No."
Clerk: (pauses) (puts bleach in a bag)
Me: ...
Not *bad* so much as just really off-kilter. It took me 20 minutes to find where they kept the sponges after I found the cleaning supplies aisle -- which is where the sponges were not.
I had a Halloween party I could have gone to this evening, but I wasn't really in the mood for it. I had a busy week, and I just wanted to be quiet and catch up on errands and watch some TV.
After the impromptu haircut, I went to Target for some basics and then on to Best Buy. However, when I left the mall with the Target, I made a big mistake and thought a lane I pulled into was a turn lane when it wasn't. I basically pulled into oncoming traffic (though there was none, thank goodness) but mostly it was a sort of half-median. The lines had confused me and it was an unfamiliar bit of the road (I usually turn the other way to go home and was turning this way to go to the Best Buy).
NATURALLY, there was a cop behind me somewhere who saw the whole thing, so along with scaring myself half to death, once I got back into the correct lane, I got pulled over. I managed to flail myself out of a ticket by explaining what had happened, but *nerve shattering.* I suppose that works for a Halloween trick, so I accidentally "celebrated" the day after all.
I went on to Best Buy because the real reason I decided to go out and run errands was to get a new modem/wireless router. The separate modem and router I've had are both 3+ years old, and I'd started having a lot of connection problems involving me re-re-restarting everything multiple times.
So far so good with the new one -- it seems MUCH faster which, of course, makes me annoyed with myself for not upgrading sooner. Still, one piece of machinery vs. two and faster vs. slower and cranky all equal win.
And in the end, there was leftover Aloo Ghobi, so no traffic ticket, faster internet, *and* Indian food? Happy Halloween!
It was a good decision to change the cover immediately, but, REALLY, Bloomsbury? The best you could do at spin was, "We just don't see why putting a long, straight-haired white girl on the cover of a book about an African-American girl with short, natural hair could possibly be construed as racist! I mean, it was a picture representing the character's 'complex psychological makeup' which is OF COURSE white! That's the default setting for all humans, duh!"*

She started this whole thing, just so you know whose star you've hitched your wagon to.
Also? Karl Rove and Ann Coulter think she's crazy.
Just sayin'
Also? A Living Will is NOT a tricky government way to kill old people.
Oh, and the people behind the "grass-roots" anti-health reform protests at town hall meetings this month? Y'know, the ones interrupting, screaming at, and talking over their representatives who are trying to field constituents' questions?
Organized and funded by healthcare industry lobbyists.
Well, the lady who was going to buy my bedroom set (and may possibly still but I'm waiting to hear) can't come tomorrow due to family medical issue that's suddenly arisen. Having been in a similar situation about a year and a half ago, I completely empathize with her. It is very stressful and upsetting, but it also resolved quickly (and happily) for my family so I'll wait a few days before reposting the set in case (let's hope) all goes well, and she can refocus on such fripperies as furniture.
*SIGH*
So here's my conundrum:
Let the non-refundable ticket to Atlanta expire and be out the money OR reschedule flight to future con destination in April and pay the fee that leaves me only $60 up on the new ticket; also to consider, current ticket price to April destination seems very high and based on last year's cost, it might be less if I wait to book until later making "saved" $60 seem even more like peanuts.
Phooey.
I think I'm just gonna *let it goooo*
Ah, well. It was a relatively cheap ticket.
PS: To those who were paying attention, I am *not* attending Dragon*Con this year after all; also not going to be at SteamCon in Seattle. This is due to happy condo-buying joyfulness rather to some bummer reason.
Well, I asked for it, so I cannot complain, but still.
I'm allergic to cats, it turns out. Also ragweed. Not so much to anything else (well to dogs some, too).
My allergist is sympathetic. She said, "Don't worry. I know you aren't getting rid of your cats." Very resigned. She does think I should keep them out of the bedroom. I'm going to get an air purifier as she suggested and clean the bedroom, bedding, and all, and then close the door. I'm not sure I'll be able to live without Nuala snuggled up beside me. Probably not. But I can keep them out of the room the rest of the day so that'll cut down on a lot of the dander (they sleep on the bed during the day). Fortunately, that's the one room in the apartment which has a door that reliably latches.
*sigh*
I just HAD to ask, but then I am getting pretty tired of being permanently stuffed-up.
This is why I'm not a joiner. Community groups, homeowner's associations, etc. There are always these psychotically small-minded, controlling people who get involved and pick fights with less crazy people and ruin things for everyone.
I think we as a planet need to just start tossing these anal-retentive jackasses out of any group (especially any *volunteer* group) where they're trying to exert their tyrannical urges. And if you're the sort who ends up in their posse, encouraging this behavior? You're a jerk, too.
How STUPID can you get?
And no, you control-freak psychos, it is NOT the principle of the thing.
I just finished my federal taxes and e-filed them and all, and THEN I realized I'd typo'd my last name.
Bugger.
It's barely 5pm and it's pitch dark.
This stinks.
And Thanksgiving week is the WORST. Everyone's just ready to be off for a few days, and the time draaaaaaaaaaaaaags.
GAAAAAaaah.
It doesn't help that I have a couple of extra days' vacation after the weekend which seem to never get any closer because time has slowed down to a standstill.
I am *so ready* to be on vacation.
Blerg.
Watching the people who chose her as their VP candidate and who therefore put her in a position she was manifestly unqualified for gossip about and tear into her like it was somehow her fault they made a poor choice* is really distasteful.
Stay classy, Republican Party!

So I had a some vanilla yogurt, the rest of a bag of trail mix (which was not a lot, btw -- maybe 1/3c?), a ho-ho, and some almonds. Later, I had a cup of coffee and another ho-ho.
I had a really good, healthy lunch, so... not a total culinary disaster of a day. Still, I guess I've learned my lesson about how long I can put off supper before I just melt down in the kitchen. Eight o'clock is Too Late.

So no shopping, no relaxed luncheon at Noodles & Co., no hanging-out with my friend. :(
Stupid mean old pothole.
So now there is NOTHING on the CW I am or will be watching; they killed the brilliant Everwood in favor of the already-ended and incredibly craptacular Seventh Heaven; they ruined Gilmore Girls into unwatchability (even the finale was a bit lame though I did "come back" to watch it). Smallville had already written itself into mind-numbing stupidity since they insist that the Lana and Clark thing be maintained in spite of the complete lack of interest or spark the pairing holds (let alone its inevitable failure we already know since Clark ends up with LOIS)...
Though Veronica Mars was not at its strongest this season, it was still very enjoyable and fun and interesting.
So not having a lot of faith in their ability to make a less crappy year two.
Booooo CW! Down with the CW! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Now I have satellite TV as part of my package with my new internet and phone... and the satellite is out due to weather... on Oscar night...
I can't win. Technology hates me.

I've been having a bit of a depressing, distressing time with my internet and phone service over the past several weeks. The phone has been so bad as to be almost unusable (in that I will be unhearable for several moments at a time though *I* can hear everyone talking okay -- and then I get to have conversations with people about how bad my phone service is! Delightful.). The internet zones in and out -- not anything like unusably but it interrupts my work -- disconnects remote connections, corrupts files while I'm ftp'ing things, etc. Oddly enough, the TV hasn't been noticably affected by all of this though the picture is sometimes not as clear as I was used to at my old house (same tv service but the rest is new at this location).
My provider has been great and trying really hard to fix things, but no matter what they do, nothing changes. It is super frustrating. I've held on this long mostly because they have been trying so hard, and they've been very good to deal with -- so incredibly rare in the modern world -- but I just can't do this anymore. I need my internet and phone to be invisible. I need them to WORK. I work from home and this is unacceptable.
So tomorrow I'm calling up the competition to schedule the mass install (TV service, too -- finally going dish just so I have the package all-in-one which will keep it cheaper). This will put me back on a landline, too, which -- regardless of all else should make the whole phone thing better.
I'm exhausted from all of this, and I do feel sorry that they couldn't fix it -- they tried really hard. I don't understand why this problem happened! Everything was fine for quite awhile, barring some phone weirdness that was cleared up fairly quickly early on. Then, down it all went, and it's been horrible ever since, and there doesn't seem to be a reason. Technology. It is mysterious and baffling and unreliable.

I have a tale to tell of what happened to my plans so that I am now renting a Ryder truck instead of a U-Haul but it'll have to wait until after the move (quick preview summary: don't rent from u-haul)
Oh, my God! They have no shame at all. None. I'm just... What is wrong with this administration? Seriously! Are they all THAT allergic to being in the wrong that Cheney can't even apologize for accidentally SHOOTING a man? He has to BLAME the guy?
Mr. Cheney? I think you know what you can go do to yourself.
Seriously.
Jackass.
