How I spent my Halloween

I did not wear a costume, but I did get my hair cut on a whim at Ulta. Lovely! I meant to keep going to my old stylist after the move, but she's so far away now and her salon doesn't stay open late, so it isn't all that practical. Meanwhile, my hair was getting hopeless, and now all is well. I really like the cut and the stylist was marvelous.

I had a Halloween party I could have gone to this evening, but I wasn't really in the mood for it. I had a busy week, and I just wanted to be quiet and catch up on errands and watch some TV.

After the impromptu haircut, I went to Target for some basics and then on to Best Buy. However, when I left the mall with the Target, I made a big mistake and thought a lane I pulled into was a turn lane when it wasn't. I basically pulled into oncoming traffic (though there was none, thank goodness) but mostly it was a sort of half-median. The lines had confused me and it was an unfamiliar bit of the road (I usually turn the other way to go home and was turning this way to go to the Best Buy).

NATURALLY, there was a cop behind me somewhere who saw the whole thing, so along with scaring myself half to death, once I got back into the correct lane, I got pulled over. I managed to flail myself out of a ticket by explaining what had happened, but *nerve shattering.*  I suppose that works for a Halloween trick, so I accidentally "celebrated" the day after all.

I went on to Best Buy because the real reason I decided to go out and run errands was to get a new modem/wireless router. The separate modem and router I've had are both 3+ years old, and I'd started having a lot of connection problems involving me re-re-restarting everything multiple times.

So far so good with the new one -- it seems MUCH faster which, of course, makes me annoyed with myself for not upgrading sooner. Still, one piece of machinery vs. two and faster vs. slower and cranky all equal win.

And in the end, there was leftover Aloo Ghobi, so no traffic ticket, faster internet, *and* Indian food?  Happy Halloween!

I bought a "Moodle Ring" at Noodles & Co yesterday -- they had a style really similar to the mood ring I had back in the 70s when they were new, so I got one of those.  They're selling them as fundraisers for Make a Wish plus also -- cute.

It's turned green which means I am currently Adventurous & Spirited.

When I've been reading The Onion, switching over to real news sites can sometimes be jarring.  For instance, I'll find myself still reading the headlines with that Oniony inner voice and thinking, "Heh... that's funny-- er, wait.  No, that's a real story.  Damn."

Today I discovered...

That my phone plan doesn't include Canada...

Oh, well.  It was a very nice phone call, and I'm glad I made it, but... ouch.

Oh, and the magazines were right: Fringe *is* a really great hair salon and well worth the drive to Wicker Park.

Busy week! Bought a new car, moved the site to a new server, got a stereo for the car — paperwork galore! — AND went out a few times with friends! So I’m ready for my nap now.

But FIRST I have to try to get this blog sorted out! argh! Why isn’t it working! It’s making me INSANE!

... There, FINALLY! They need to add a republish entire frickin’ blog button somewhere prominent for those of us who move servers...

And for those of us who are made stupid by tiredness and can’t input the settings information correctly... that would help, too. The psychic publish button? That’d be GREAT!!

Everyone at work is in some state of sickliness, and I’m trying not to be because I have weekend plans! One begins to imagine symptoms, though, when one is trying to plan something and everyone around is full-blown unwell. Crazy.

My eyes are fuzzy from staring at the computer screen at home, at work, at home again for too many hours. I didn’t even make it to the gym tonight, and I am ready for a break from the one-eyed desktop monster.

I went to buy chocolates as a present for the friend I’m hanging with this weekend (from a local store which makes the best chocolates in the world -- DeBrand’s) and TOTALLY forgot that it was Valentine’s Eve! I’m a moron. But it was amazing. They had it so planned out and organized that I was in and out in five minutes even though there was a crowd at the counter and several people lined up the whole time. They know how to run a chocolaterie, I’ll tell you THAT.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
