Pet Mom TMI

attention

So my dear cat Liffey is kind of... fat.

And she can't quite... get to certain areas. Also, she's rather epically lazy, so I don't know how hard she really tries.

Now, she's a shorthair and therefore prone to fewer problems with, shall we say, Klingons, than is her adored Nuala (who needs almost no help staying pristine, thank you very much.

But still.

Ew.

So last time I was at PetSmart, I checked out their kitty wet-wipes which they did have -- quite a variety -- and today as I was brushing my roly poly sweetie of a big ol' easily-panicked cat, I tried out one of these.

Of course, she freaked, but then there was the brushing which she loves so much, so she didn't go far.

I retreated and arranged things more carefully. More brushing, handiwipe nearby, more brushing, Mom-hold, and GO!

LOTS of yelling but almost no movement, because the Mom hold is Very Very Effective.

And now she is allllll clean and seems pretty much okay with the whole thing.

Ah, the things we do for the ones we love.

Loffing. Silly kitty. I used to have to do that from time to time with my long-haired kitty Wendy years ago. Not too often, but still. A mom's job is thankless and often icky. :)

She *is* very silly. I'm hoping she is inspired to take better care for fear of the wet-wipes. It does seem to have spurred her to a much more thorough self-wash than I've seen her perform recently.

Ah, the joys of motherhood. Andreas is probably 17 lbs, but he's also a "large-breed" cat, and thankfully he can still take care of his Klingons - barely. Quite funny seeing him using his paws to pull and hold himself in place to do his ablutions.

No excuses, as Liffey is probably of a size with him. She is just so dang lazy.

You know, on one hand it's amusing watching an overweight cat roll around on the floor like some kind of defective Weeble while trying to lick its bottom, but on the other hand--Klingons, ick. We had lots of fun at Chablis' expense before she finally slimmed down and stopped Weebling. We don't miss the Klingons, though.

The thing with her is, she's not *that* fat and she *really* doesn't eat all that much -- she is just -- honest and for truly -- EPICALLY lazy. (epicly? i know it isn't a word, so... wev)

I brush her almost every day which helps keep her coat shiny and clean, and I've had to do this now (which frankly seemed to inspire her to put in a bit of effort so maybe if I attack her with the wet-wipes a few more times, she'll stop being SO LAZY about her grooming).

My other cat who I do see eating quite a bit of the time is skinny as a rail, fidgety as a fly, fluffy as a bunny, and as pristine, stem to stern, as you'd want a cat to be.

So there ya go.
